For most home improvement projects, you as the homeowner know its time. You feel a draft through your windows, your kitchen could use an update, or your siding has begun to crack. For your roof, though, it is out of sight and out of mind for many homeowners!
Roofing problems can be tricky to spot – we spoke with our friends at Richmond Exteriors, a roofing company in Indianapolis, and asked them what signs to look for that signal you should schedule a free roofing inspection.
Here are the most common signs that an inspection is due:
Granules in your gutters
If you look at your gutter downspouts and see little black roofing granules, that’s a problem! Your roofing should not shed a large amount of granules.
A shingle is blown off
Find a shingle in your yard? It can be hard to see if you have one missing, particularly if you have a 2 story home! Call out an expert roofer for a free inspection, just to be sure.
Water stains on the ceiling
If water is leaving stains on your top floor ceiling, it’s past time for an inspection! Leaks can be easily repaired once identified by an expert roofing company.
Your roof is 10-20 years old
An asphalt roof lasts between 10 and 20 years. That’s a wide range for a reason! The weather, the humidity, and the amount of sunlight your particular roof gets are all variables that determine how long the shingles last. If you are in the 10-20 year range for your roof, there is no harm to call out a professional roofer to inspect the roof. It’s free in most cases!
